to professional development – Gemma Giam
Since starting at UEC in October 2017, Gemma Giam has completed 74 personal development courses and programs (32 x self-selected courses and programs, 16 x UEC workshops and 26 x Lunch and Learn’s) to date (August 2020). This equates to 508 attendance hours (excludes study time). 38% of the hours were spent on general personal/ career development, 26% on data analytics and conversion rate optimisation, 16% on user experience design and visual design, 15% on project management and productivity and 5% on domain and platform knowledge.
Gemma’s exceptional commitment to her professional development is exemplary, so much so that in 2019,
the Gemmy Award was created in her name to reflect this outstanding devotion to UEC ideals and corporate values.
The books in the library cover topics on personal motivation and professional development, personal financial planning, art and design concepts, creative writing, landing page optimisation, marketing, sales and leadership.
The Gemmy Award
This eponymous award was presented in November 2019 in grateful recognition of Gemma Giam’s outstanding contributions to the revolutionary changes she implemented through several stages of our transitional evolution, creating quantum leaps in the automation and systemisation of our processes.
As the winner of the 2019 Gemmy Award, Gemma was presented with an all-expenses paid trip for two to beautiful Bali, Indonesia.
Our hiring process
We are always looking for the best the industry has to offer. Our multi-step process is designed so people can self-select into or out of the process if they are not willing to invest themselves in the process that can take between 1 and up to 5 hours of research, preparation, testing and interviewing, depending on the candidate and the role. One thing we want to get right is hiring the right ‘type’ of people to join the Ultimate Team. We are making an investment in people who are worthy and eager to raise their game and accelerate their career progression. Admittedly, this is not for everyone and we know that. We just want those who yearn for, even crave the chance to step up on to the next rung of their careers and have fun doing it by playing full-on.
I wanted to personally thank you, and the whole recruitment team at Ultimate Edge, for the application process and the unique challenge you set for the Senior Content and Copy Editor / Content and Copywriter role. I have never been given the opportunity to engage with such a detailed test so early on in the application process, let alone in any stage of the application process. First and foremost, it was simply and utterly brilliant. Asking applicants to edit, unpack, revise and create suggestions for your two pieces of website content, while also requesting some individual tips on SEO, was not only engaging and suitably challenging, but a breath of fresh air in a world that is saturated by robotic recruiters and their deficient application approach.
